The Transition Monitoring Group is a coalition built on a bedrock of highly dedicated civil society organizations who form the membership of the organization. These member organizations fall under several broad thematic areas including; civic education, civil/political rights, social and economic rights, media, environment, security, women/gender, organizations with capacity, to mention a few.

The organization's leadership structure has at its apex the Executive council made up of four officials (the Chairperson, Deputy Chairperson, Treasurer and Publicity Secretary). These officials are responsible for governing the affairs of the organization on close basis. The Executive council are drawn from a larger body called the Coordinating Committee. Providing a greater pool of opinions and expertise for decision making and project execution is the province of the Coordinating Committee. The coordinating committee is made up of the 6 zonal coordinators representing each geo-political zone in the country, representatives for each of the thematic areas and the Executive Council.
The zonal coordinators have oversight of the state coordinators who are representatives of the TMG in each of the states of the federation, including the Federal Capital territory.

The organization is deliberately structured to ensure seamless workings in the execution of projects from the top down in order to effectively engage the enormous synergy available to the TMG's in her varied and vast membership strength. 
The TMG's core values are;
